Fireworks taps Sony's Ford to lead digital push

LONDON -- Fireworks International, the television distribution arm of ContentFilm, has hired former Sony Pictures Television International executive Jonathan Ford to spearhead its digital media push.

Ford joins Fireworks as vp of digital distribtuion, the company said Tuesday. He is charged with licensing of all Fireworks' new and library properties to digital media channels throughout the world, including on-demand, broadband and mobile platforms, the company said.

Ford joins Fireworks from SPTI, where he held the post of director of digital intiatives, Europe. Before joining Sony Pictures in 2004, Jonathan worked for British Telecom as head of sales for their IPTV service.

Fireworks International president Greg Phillips described Ford's hire as "an important strategic development" for the company. "We are thrilled to have him on board to lead our effort in identifying new digital opportunities and maximizing our revenue flow on our catalog from the increasingly attractive digital universe."

Added ContentFilm CEO John Schmidt: "The development of new media opportunities at ContentFilm is a high priority."

The company is bringing U.S. digital brand HEAVY.com to the international marketplace, having linked with the company earlier this year.
