NEW YORK -- Fox News has appointed Brian Jones senior vp for the upcoming Fox Business Channel, the network said Wednesday.

Jones will lead newsgathering, staffing and operations for production as well as the acquisition of financial data for the Fox Business Channel. He will report to Fox News executive vp Kevin Magee.

Jones has been vp news at the Fox News Channel, in charge of new product and business development.

"I have long relied on Brian's experience, versatility and talent," Fox News chairman and CEO Roger Ailes said. "He will be important to the launch of our business channel."

The channel's launch is scheduled for this year in at least 29 million homes.

From 2002-03, Jones was director of communications at McGraw-Hill Cos. He also was vp programming at American Sky Broadcasting, which developed the electronic program guide. Before that, he was vp at SkyGlobal Networks, where he worked on the team that helped News Corp. acquire DirecTV.
