In a one-two punch, Fox is preparing to order the new Adam F. Goldberg comedy project and revive his Christian Slater workplace spy comedy Breaking In, both from Sony Pictures TV.

While each of the rival networks were said to have shown interest in Goldberg's new effort, Fox was willing to throw in a 13-episode order of Goldberg and the studio's previously canceled project as leverage, according to a source familiar with the situation.

The news comes mere weeks after Fox entertainment chief Kevin Reilly told members of the Television Critics Association that he had liked Breaking In, but had the high-class problem of too few holes to fill in his schedule. The net dropped the series after seven midseason airings, announcing the pick up of four new comedies (two live-action, two animated) at May's upfront. 

"We all liked Breaking In," Reilly added of the show that has skirted death once before. "We had a very passionate group of producers and actors who wanted to try to keep it going ... It still has a shot. They’ve agreed to extend an option, so we’ve kept it alive. You know what? Stranger things have happened."

Like Breaking In, Goldberg's new project is a comedy co-produced by Adam Sandler's Happy Madison. The single-camera comedy is believed to be autobiographical in tone with a focus on his 1980s upbringing.

Goldberg, whose past small screen credits include Secret Girlfriend and Aliens in America, is repped by WME.
