Fox Builds Alternative Team With Two New Execs and a Promotion
Lisa Levenson and Alex Piper join the network, while Amy Cohen is upped to executive director in the first big move made by new topper Simon Andreae.
Fox announced Tuesday the addition of two senior executives to its evolving unscripted team. The move comes just two months after the network tapped Discovery veteran Simon Andreae to lead the network's reality efforts after the 2013 departure of longtime chief Mike Darnell.
The new additions are senior vp Lisa Levenson and vp Alex Piper, who come from Cineflix Productions and Asylum Entertainment, respectively.
"Lisa and Alex come to us with strong backgrounds, both as showrunners and as senior production company executives," said Andreae. "As such, each is perfectly equipped not only to support our current unscripted slate, but also to help shape the next generation of hit Fox shows. We’re truly delighted to have them join."
Additionally, Amy Cohen, a member of the network's unscripted team since 2005, has been upped to executive director of alternative entertainment. Cohen has been a key player in many of Fox's reality hits, overseeing Gordon Ramsay's MasterChef franchise after launching the main competition in 2010 and the successful Junior spinoff in 2013.
Additions Levenson and Piper will lead day-to-day management of Fox's current roster of unscripted programming while developing and expanding the reality fare under Andreae's leadership.
Levenson, who served as executive vp development at Cineflix, launched the production company's Los Angeles outpost in 2011 and previously served as EP on reality hits The Bachelor and The Bachelorette.
And Piper, senior vp alternative television at Asylum, developed and launched such titles as Fox Sports 1's Being Mike Tyson and TLC's Addicted. He received six Emmy Awards for his tenure producing NBC's Olympics coverage and other sports content.
Fox, which sees reality flagship American Idol return Jan. 15 with another revamped judges panel, has not made any unscripted orders since Andreae joined in October.
