Michael Hopkins has been promoted to oversee all distribution activities across Fox Cable Networks' portfolio of more than 30 cable and satellite networks, which include FX, FSN, National Geographic Channel and Fox Reality.

Hopkins has been upped to serve as executive vp and general manager of affiliate sales and marketing, reporting to Fox Networks Group president and CEO Tony Vinciquerra. Hopkins essentially replaces Lindsay Gardner, the Fox Cable Networks president of affiliate sales and marketing who is exiting his post at month's end for a position at private merchant bank Mediatech Capital Partners.

Hopkins will continue to work closely with senior vps Michael Biard, Sean Riley and Todd Schoen, who supervise day-to-day activities across national accounts, field operations and affiliate marketing for FCN, respectively. The trio will report to Hopkins.

"We are fortunate to have someone of Mike's strong caliber to guide our distribution activities at this critical moment," Vinciquerra said. "Mike will lead a very talented group of individuals within our affiliate sales and marketing group toward an even better and more mutually profitable future with our distribution partners."

Hopkins said two of the areas he wants to focus on as a priority are launching the Big Ten Network in August and working with the three digital groups within the company -- Fox Interactive Media, Fox Digital Entertainment and Fox Mobile Entertainment -- to create "unique opportunities on behalf of our distribution partners."

"I really want to work in collaboration with them to drive the transition to the digital world and focus on our customers in that space," he said.

Hopkins joined Fox Cable Networks in 1997 as director of affiliate sales and worked his way up the ranks. He remains based at the company's headquarters on the Fox studio production lot in Los Angeles.
