Fox International Restructures Asia Team Toward China Focus

Joon Lee steps into a new role with an eye on Chinese-language content.

What Fox International Channels has described as "emerging opportunities in Japan and Korea" have led it to announce a shuffle in its Asia management team, alongside a ramping up of its investment in Chinese-language content.

The restructuring, which will take effect Sept. 1, will see Joon Lee move into the new dual-role of executive vp North Asia and head of original productions, Mainland China.

Lee was appointed md of South East Asia and Hong Kong in April last year. His new position will see him focus on “driving initiatives in Japan and Korea, as well as increasing FIC’s share of the growing opportunities in original Chinese production,” FIC said in a statement.

“Japan and Korea are two of the biggest media markets in our footprint,” said Zubin Gandevia, president of FIC Asia Pacific and Middle East. “In view of recent strategic partnerships we’ve forged in both countries, including with JTBC to launch JTBC3 FOX Sports in Korea and with Avex in Japan as part of an OTT offering, we see massive potential for further growth in these markets.”

Taking over from Lee in Hong Kong and South East Asia is Simeon Dawes, who will also continue in his previous role overseeing FIC’s Middle East business as well as ad sales across Asia Pacific. Like Lee, he was upped to his current post last year. His title becomes exec vp advertising sales & partnerships, and md, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia & Middle East.

Keertan Adyanthaya takes on the role of exec vp, content and communications, Hong Kong and South East Asia.
