Fox is sitting pretty

Net notches 18th straight win in adults 18-49

CBS came in comfortably ahead of its rivals in primetime viewership last week, while Fox rode "American Idol" to the top of the heap in the key adults 18-49 demographic.

It was Fox's 18th consecutive win in adults 18-49. That was in large part because of the two top-rated shows in the demo, Tuesday's "American Idol" (21.8 million viewers, 8.4 rating/23 share) and Wednesday's "Idol" (22.9 million, 8.2/21), as well as "Hell's Kitchen" (11 million, 5.2/13) and "House" (13.5 million, 5.1/14).

Fox won Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday in adults 18-49 and tied CBS on Monday night; ABC won Thursday and Sunday thanks to its drama lineups.

CBS won Friday night, with its original dramas topping each hour. Fox's Saturday win was paced by the "NASCAR Spring Cup" telecast (7.8 million, 2.7/10) that beat ABC's NBA playoff game between the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers (4.7 million, 1.7/6).

CBS and Fox took three victories apiece in viewership, with ABC winning Monday thanks to "Dancing With the Stars" (18.1 million, 4.3/12). CBS' Monday comedy lineup peaked with "Two and a Half Men" (13.6 million, 4.9/12), which defeated "House" in viewership and came within two-tenths of a point in 18-49. CBS beat ABC's Thursday lineup in viewership all three hours, though "Grey's Anatomy" (16 million, 6.4/16) won 18-49 against "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" (18.1 million, 5.0/13) and "Lost" (10.8 million, 4.7/13) beat "Without a Trace" (14.7 million, 3.8/10) in the demo. "Lost" was even last week in adults 18-49. The penultimate "Survivor: Micronesia" (12.6 million, 4.1/12) beat "Ugly Betty" (8 million, 2.4/7) in the demo.

NBC was barely a factor for the week, coming in a distant fourth place in viewers and adults 18-49. "Law & Order: SVU" (10.5 million, 3.6/10) won at 10 p.m. Tuesday, but that was one of the network's few bright spots.

Sunday's competition was between CBS and ABC, with the two-hour "Survivor: Micronesia" finale (13 million, 4.4/12) squaring off against "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" (12 million, 4.0/11) and "Desperate Housewives" (15.4 million, 5.6/14). "Housewives," while still dominant on the night, was down from last week's 16.9 million viewers and a 6.3/16 in adults 18-49. Fighting to a draw at 10 p.m. were "Brothers & Sisters" (10.7 million, 3.8/10) and "Survivor: Micronesia Reunion" (10.4 million, 3.8/10).(partialdiff)
