Fox orders 'Money Drop' pilot

British game show format comes from Endemol

LONDON – Fox has commissioned a pilot of British game show format "The Million Pound Drop" from Endemol, which will be renamed "The Money Drop" and film later this summer, U.S. head David Goldberg said Wednesday.

The show, which aired on Channel 4 last month over six consecutive nights, sees eight contestants handed a million dollars at the start of the show. The catch? They have to answer eight questions correctly before they get to take it home.

The British version averaged 2.2 million viewers and an 11.9% share, an increase of 22% on the 10pm Channel 4 slot average.

Across the six-day run, the show clocked up a reach of 13 million viewers in total and delivered the best 16-34 tally across the week of all the networks.

The multiplatform format allows viewers to play at home with virtual money, pulling in 450,000 users.

Last week Endemol announced that ABC was piloting another of its formats, "101 Ways To Leave A Gameshow."
