Fox plans early start for postseason lineup

Fox has announced the return of "So You Think You Can Dance," another round of "Hell's Kitchen" and a new scripted psych-ward drama titled "Mental" for the summer.

The postseason lineup launches a little early, in late May, something NBC also is doing as networks jockey to premiere their next round of programming while viewing levels remain high. Fox also is rolling out "Don't Forget the Lyrics" and "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?"

"Dance" has a two-night, four-hour premiere Thursday, May 21, and Wednesday, May 27. After auditions conclude, two-hour weekly performance shows will air at 8 p.m. Wednesdays, with one-hour results shows at 9 p.m. Thursdays.

"Mental" will air at 9 p.m. Fridays, debuting May 22. "Lyrics" will serve as "Mental's" lead-in at 8 p.m., launching the same day, and will be swapped with "5th Grader" starting July 3.

"Hell's" is airing back-to-back installments this year and will return with a two-hour debut at 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 21. Saturday night staples "Cops" and "America's Most Wanted" will continue into the summer.

No new reality shows are on Fox's list, though that likely will change as the summer nears. (partialdiff)
