Fox seeks second satellite license in Japan
Would be used for Nat Geo channel, Fox saysTOKYO – Fox Japan is trying to land a second license for digital satellite broadcasts, which it plans to use for a National Geographic channel, according to business daily, the Nikkei.
Having already secured one of the 11 new digital channel slots that were up for grabs last summer, Fox is aiming for one of the six further channels that are on offer from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
The new channels are due to start broadcasting after July 2011 when bandwidth will be freed up by the end of analog broadcasting.
Applications close Friday and the decision on the six remaining channels is expected in the autumn.
