Fox, Sony Pictures to Launch Home Entertainment Venture in Brazil
Jefferson Pugsley to lead Fox/Sony Pictures Home Entertainment do Brasil.
Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will launch a Sao Paulo-based joint venture in early 2012, aimed at marketing, sales and distribution of each company’s DVDs and Blu-ray Discs.
This will includes HD as well as 3D content.
“Brazilian consumers are trading up to a higher standard in home entertainment with the purchase of HDTVs and Blu-ray players,” said T. Paul Miller, SPHE’s senior vp, international. “In addition, the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Summer Olympic Games to be held in Brazil will drive not only economic growth, but growth in the home entertainment marketplace through the expansion of HDTV’s into a whole new set of homes.”
Leading the Fox - Sony Pictures Home Entertainment do Brasil Ltda (FSPHEB) will be newly appointed general manager Jefferson Pugsley, who joins the company from Paramount Home Entertainment Brazil where he was vp and managing director. In his new role, he will report to a board of directors comprised of representatives from each studio.
"For the last ten years, we’ve seen an emergent middle and upper class in Brazil who are devoting an increasing amount of interest to entertainment and technology, similar to the habits we are witnessing in other countries,” said Gary Ferguson, senior vp of emerging markets, Fox. “Combining expertise from Fox and SPHE under one roof positions our new organization to efficiently meet consumer demand for high -definition home entertainment viewing experiences in the living room.”
Sony is a global sponsor of the aforementioned FIFA World Cup.
