Fox's 'Idol' blows away all Wed. competition

NEW YORK -- "American Idol" handed Fox an overwhelming victory in viewership and adults 18-49 while "Lost" improved slightly from last week.

"Idol" was the night's top show in viewership (28.1 million) and adults 18-49 (10.8 rating/27 share), according to preliminary estimates released Thursday by Nielsen Media Research. Nothing else was even close on the broadcast networks.

"Lost" (12.1 million, 5.2/14), slightly improved from last week, won 10 p.m. against "CSI: NY" (12.9 million, 3.9/10), which won the hour in viewership. NBC's "Medium" (7.6 million, 2.7/7) was far behind.

CBS' "Jericho" finale (8.2 million, 2.2/7) was slightly improved from last week (7.6 million, 2.1/6). Fox won the 8 p.m. hour with "Bones" (10.4 million, 3.0/10).

CBS improved at 9 p.m. with "Criminal Minds" (13.3 million, 3.5/9) while NBC was down further with "Crossing Jordan" (5.9 million, 1.6/4) than last week's low-rated 6.4 million and 1.8/5.

Nightly averages: ABC (7.4 million, 3.0/8); CBS (11.5 million, 3.2/9); NBC (6.6 million, 2.2/6); Fox (19.2 million, 6.9/19); and The CW (4.2 million, 1.9/5).
