Fox's reality sinks in for Thurs. primetime race

NEW YORK -- Fox's reality lineup beat CBS combination of reality and repeat drama to take Thursday night's broadcast primetime.

Fox handily won the 8 p.m. hour with "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" (9.1 million, 2.9 rating/10 share in adults 18-49), according to preliminary estimates released Friday by Nielsen Media Research. "5th Grader" was down week-to-week in viewership and the demo while CBS' "Pirate Master" (5.8 million, 1.9/7) got a little bit more wind in its sails compared with last week (5.4 million, 1.5/5).

Fox split 9 p.m. with "So You Think You Can Dance" (9 million, 3.4/10) winning the demo while a repeat "CSI" (9.2 million, 2.5/8) won in viewers. "Dance" was also down from last week's episode (10.6 million, 4.0/12).

The 10 p.m. hour was won by a repeat "Shark" (8.1 million, 2.1/6), which beat out a repeat "Grey's Anatomy" (4.1 million, 1.4/4) and an original of the canceled "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" (4.4 million, 1.8/5).

Thursday averages: Fox (9 million, 3.1/10); CBS (7.7 million, 2.1/7); NBC (4.3 million, 1.9/6); ABC (3.9 million, 1.2/4); and the CW (2 million, 0.8/3).
