PARIS -- French mobile telephone leader France Telecom celebrated the new year on a high note, claiming more than 3.5 million Orange mobile broadband clients as of Dec. 31, the company announced Tuesday.

Orange clients took advantage of over 51 million live television and video broadcasts throughout the year, of which six million took place in the month of December alone.

The company tallied 8.4 million connections to the Orange World Music portal since its launch in June 2005, with more than 52 million pages viewed. Orange mobile clients purchased more than 13 million musical products in 2006 (audio, video, radio and musical clips plus downloads of musical titles, tunes and logos), showing an average monthly download increase rate of 19%. With 100,000 WiFi users consuming 20 million minutes per month, Orange far surpassed its goals for 2006.

Orange's broadband service -- the first to give mobile television access in high definition on all 3G platforms -- includes more than 50 television channels, 3,000 videos, 17 radio stations and a music catalog of over 700,000 titles, in addition to a range of multimedia options.

Orange offers the most complete mobile coverage in France -- 95% of French people are covered by 3G, 3G+ and Edge -- in addition to more than 30,000 WiFi hotspots throughout France and 30,000 partner hotspots in more than 60 countries.
