'The New Girlfriend,' another movie that debuted at the Toronto Film Festival, finds a home

Cohen Media Group has picked up U.S. rights to French director François Ozon’s new film The New Girlfriend, based on the short story of the same name by British author Ruth Rendell. The film stars Anais Demoustier as a woman who falls into a deep depression following the death of her best friend only to discover that her friend’s husband, played by Romain Duris, harbors a secret.

The film, produced by France’s Mandarin Cinema, had its world premiere at the recent Toronto International Film Festival. It is currently in the official competition at the San Sebastian Film Festival.

CMG acquired the film through Paris-based international sales agency Films Distribution, with CMG executive vp John Kochman negotiating the deal with Nicolas Brigaud Robert, co-founder of Films Distribution. The acquisition was announced today by CMG chairman and CEO Charles S. Cohen.
