Freddie Highmore Signs With UTA (Exclusive)
It’s the British ‘Bates Motel’ star’s first U.S. agency.
Bates Motel star Freddie Highmore has picked UTA as his first American agency, The Hollywood Reporter exclusively has learned. He continues to be repped by Sue Latimer at the U.K.’s Artist Rights Group and attorney Fred Toczek at Felker Toczek.
The British actor currently stars opposite Vera Farmiga as the future motel owner with a homicidal Oedipus complex in A&E’s Psycho prequel. He has earned Saturn, Critics Choice, People’s Choice and Satellite Award nominations for the role. Bates Motel’s third season premieres in March.
Before that, Highmore played twins in The Spiderwick Chronicles, a musical prodigy in August Rush and the titular boy with a golden ticket opposite Johnny Depp in 2005’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Depp had recommended him for the role after working with him in Finding Neverland the year before. Highmore’s portrayal of the emotionally troubled boy who inspired J.M. Barrie (Depp) to write Peter Pan was a breakout performance that won praise from the Broadcast Film Critics Association, the U.K.’s Empire Awards and the Young Artist Awards, among other accolades.
Between acting gigs, Highmore studied at Cambridge University, graduating this summer with a double first in Spanish and Arabic.
