French Cesars add animation category

The 36th Cesar Awards ceremony to be held on Feb. 25

PARIS -- France's film prize ceremony the Cesar Awards will be singing a different toon in 2011 with a new best animated feature film category, French Academy of Film Technical Arts & Sciences said Friday.

Eligibility and nomination details will be discussed at the Academy's next meeting.

Eight years after the Oscars added an animation category, the Cesar awards will feature a prize for the best animated French film of the year at the 2011 ceremony.

Sylvain Chomet's "The Illusionist" and Luc Besson's "Arthur and the Minimoys" are among Gallic toon titles getting early buzz for nominations in the category.

However, despite actor Dany Boon's pleas before last year's ceremony, the Cesar awards won't feature a best comedy category next year. The 36th annual Cesar Awards ceremony will be held on Feb. 25, 2011.
