French, Italian Pair Picked For Locarno
Un amour de jeunesse" and "Sette opere di misericordia" first two films selected for 64th Locarno festival.
BERLIN - The third feature film from up-and-coming French director Mia Hansen-Love and the feature debut from award-winning shorts directors, the Italian twins Gianluca and Massimiliano De Serio will compete at the 64th Locarno International Film Festival.
Hansen-Love's Un amour de jeunesse marks the actress-turned-helmer's second visit to Locarno, following her short film debut Apres mure reflexion, which screened there in 2004. Her first two features premiered in Cannes: Tout est pardonne (2007) in Directors’ Fortnight and Le pere de mes enfants (2009) in Un Certain Regard, where it won the Jury Special Prize.
The De Serio twins have been nominated for Italy's Oscar equivalent, the David di Donatello Prize, for their shorts films Mio fratello Yang (2004) and Zakaria (2005).
The 64th Locarno festival runs Aug. 3-13. Organizers will announce the full festival lineup in the coming weeks.
