French newspaper releases piracy report
More than 34% of consumers in survey admit to piracyPARIS -- France's major daily newspaper Le Figaro released a study Thursday from marketing and research group TNS Sofres with the headline "Piracy has become a national sport in France."
According to the study, based on more than 2,000 consumers 15 and older, 34% of audio and video player users admitted to illegally downloading content.
One in five French consumers use illegal external hard drives to store pirated files, 8% use USB keys, and 7% prefer mobile phones.
The French government has been pushing a new "Creation and Internet" law that will cut off the Web connections of consumers charged with Internet piracy.
