"I have to go sit, but you can follow me," offers a gracious Liberty Ross, impeccably tailored and in black stilettos, as the PR mavens try to clear the catwalk so Joseph Altuzarra's fall '14 show can begin. The model and actress acknowledges that it's her first Altuzarra presentation.
"He's not a friend, but I'm huge fan: I've been watching him from the beginning," she said of the 30 year-old French-born dynamo, who designed last year's Emmys Green Room and already has two CFDA awards under his belt.
Asked where to buy his body-conscious dresses and fitted jackets in L.A., the actress admits that she has no idea. But she wishes that his sculptural two-tone coats, tapestry tweeds and multicolored patchwork furs were on offer at Just One Eye, her favorite store.
"I also love Tom Ford's store," she told Pret-a-Reporter. We couldn't help but wonder if Ross just landed from L.A. into New York's current 26-degree abyss complete with piles of dirty snow. The Hollywood resident smiled at the question.
"I arrived yesterday. But I actually love the cold! I love wearing layers, furs and coats. I do high heels even if it snows. And Alaia hiking boots are my favorite."
We will expect to see said boots at Runyon, stat.
A few seats down, Joe Zee, creative director of Elle, and host of Sundance Channel's Revealing and All On the Line with Joe Zee, expresses an equal admiration for the recently-engaged designer.
"I love Joseph Altuzarra's clothes. I wanted someone to wear his gold dress last season on the red carpet. It was of a missed opportunity. I love the girls he already dresses, like Jessica Pare. But he's so underrated on the red carpet. He has such an eye for design, and an alluring, sophisticated sense of sexiness, which is perfect for the red carpet."
Asked who he will pitch Joseph to if an opportunity arises, Zee is quick with an answer.
"Cate Blanchett would look amazing in his clothes. Someone like Nicole Kidman would be beautiful, too, as well as Lupita Nyong'o. Yes, Lupita, will be amazing!"
