Judy Craymer, Simon Fuller team for 'Viva Forever'

LONDON -- "Mamma Mia!" film and stageshow producer Judy Craymer has signed a deal with Simon Fuller's new XIX venture to create and produce a new musical, "Viva Forever," based on the songs of the Spice Girls.

XIX, Judy Craymer Prods, the Spice Girls and Universal Music aim to re-create the success of "Mamma Mia!" with the Girls for a new generation, based on the music and verve of the '90s girl power phenomenon.

"This is not a tribute show, but it will harness the distinct personality of the Spice Girls to create a musical that celebrates the energy and excitement of the biggest girl-band of all time," Craymer said.

"I want to create a unique celebration of the band and its music, with its own flavor and joyful message. It is important to me that the excitement, style and humor of the Spice Girls is well represented onstage."

Launched by Simon Fuller, the Spice Girls sold 75 million records and topped the chart in every country in the world with their albums and hit singles that were beloved of a generation of preteen girls.

"The girls and I are very excited to be working with Judy Craymer," Fuller said.

"Now with this incredible new project 'Viva Forever' we all come together as partners with a combined focus to create something really special for this next decade," he added.

So far, the global stage hit "Mamma Mia!" has played to a total audience of more than 42 million and has taken more than $2 billion in theater boxoffice over 10 years, with eight local productions in markets including London, Broadway, Spain, the Netherlands and Australia.
