Funny Faces eye TV gig

The Funny Face characters could be making their way to television.

The characters -- which include Loud Mouth Lime, Jolly Olly Orange and Goofy Grape -- were originally featured on Pillsbury drink packets in the 1960s and '70s.

Renegade Animation, which produces the Cartoon Network series "Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi" and "The Mr. Men Show," has obtained the rights to the Funny Face characters from Carson Creations to produce an animated series based on their "wacky shenanigans." It will be aimed at kids 6-11 and will recall the animation style and the spirit of such classics as "Tom & Jerry" and Looney Tunes.

Renegade is producing a pilot episode while seeking distribution and licensing agreements.

"It's a delightful opportunity to be funny in a way that is missing from the cartoon landscape right now," said Renegade's Ashley Postlewaite, who will executive produce.

Darrell Van Citters will direct, while Michael Giaimo is heading up visual development.
