Fusion Taps TV's First Chief Cannabis Correspondent
Ryan Nerz will host a limited half-hour series, "The Cannabusiness Report."
Fusion, the startup network from Univision and ABC News, has tapped Ryan Nerz as its chief cannabis correspondent.
Nerz, a Yale graduate, is expected to become a regular contributor to Fusion's digital and television platforms, exploring the cannabis culture and the booming industry surrounding it.
Additionally, Fusion has ordered a limited half-hour series that Nerz will host, The Cannabusiness Report. Over the past several months, Nerz developed the series through various segments on Fusion's former morning show Fusion Live, which currently airs in primetime.
"Marijuana legalization is an issue that is taking on increasing relevance -- politically, economically and culturally -- and requires the kind of coverage that only someone with Ryan's expertise can deliver," said Fusion CEO Isaac Lee. "Ryan's reporting is a great example of how Fusion is uniquely capable of providing news, information, and opinion on topics that matter to millennials, especially in situations where the mainstream media can't keep up."
Nerz's appointment marks a concerted effort by Fusion to capitalize on the growing support for legalization of marijuana sales in America. Last year, Colorado and Washington legalized marijuana for recreational use.
Nerz has written for NPR, Esquire and History Channel and is the author of two books, MARIJUANAMERICA: One Man's Quest to Understand America's Dysfunctional Love Affair With Weed and Eat This Book: A Year of Gorging and Glory on the Competitive Eating Circuit.
