Gabriel Yared to be Honored at European Film Awards

Oscar-winning composer to receive the European Achievement in World Cinema honor.

COLOGNE, Germany -- Oscar-winning composer Gabriel Yared (The English Patient) will receive the European Achievement in World Cinema honor from the European Film Academy at the 2010 European Film Awards.

Yared began his career in France, composing scores for such films as Jean-Luc Godard's Every Man For Himself and Jean-Jacques Beineix's Betty Blue.

But he is perhaps best known for his collaborations with the late Anthony Minghella. Yared won an Oscar for his score to Minghella's The English Patient and was twice nominated for The Talented Mr. Ripley and Cold Mountain.

More recent work includes the scores for Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck's The Lives of Others and Jan Kounen's Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky.

Yared will receive his award at the 23rd European Film Awards Ceremony on Dec. 4 in Tallinn, Estonia.
