HONG KONG -- Hong Kong animation company Jidou has inked deals for its award-winning animated series "Jidougames" to broadcast in Japan, Spain, Greece and Cyprus, the company said Monday.

The announcement comes hot on the heels of similar deals in Hong Kong, Indonesia and the Philippines for the 26 episode series, which follows Jidou and his friends as they compete in sporting events around the world.

"Having a chance to establish one of our properties in competitive markets such as Japan -- the Mecca of animation in Asia -- and European countries such as Spain, Greece and Cyprus, whose local animation industries are thriving, is not only a breakthrough for independent animation from China but also a great honor for any industry player," Jidou director and CEO Alexander Wong said.

In Japan, the series will screen across multiple platforms including terrestrial TV, mobile, Internet and DVD in deals inked with TV and radio broadcaster Chubu-Nippon Broadcasting in the Tokai region, and J-Sports, which focuses on local and overseas sports programs. The show will debut in Japan this year.

In Spain, a TV deal was signed with Basque Country-based media group Euskal Irrati Telebista for the series to screen during the Beijing Olympics. The program was sold to Athens-based Channel 9 in Greece and free-to-air CNC Plus in Cyprus, where the show will begin broadcasting at the end of January.
