Gary Auerbach Joins NBCUni Unscripted Banner, Wilshire Studios
In the wake of his departure, Go Go Luckey Entertainment has shuffled its executive ranks.
NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment's unscripted studio -- previously dubbed Comcast Entertainment Studios -- has been renamed Wilshire Studios and tapped Go Go Luckey founder/partner Gary Auerbach as president of development and programming.
Effective May 1, Auerbach will oversee all development and the production of current series including The Soup, Fashion Police, Live From the Red Carpet and True Hollywood Story for E! as well as BBC America's The Nerdist and Style's Giuliana and Bill.
"Gary is an excellent creative talent who brings vast experience, deep industry relationships and a tremendous track record to our organization,” said Wilshire Studios president Steve Dolcemaschio, to whom Auerbach will report. “As we continue to expand the studio’s footprint across the television landscape, Gary is the perfect person to propel us to the next level with top-notch programming across a myriad of genres.”
Auerbach founded Go Go Luckey Entertainment, where he oversaw production of Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, Paranormal State, Ghost Lab and Decoded, among other series.
“Working together with Steve to lead this dynamic unscripted studio is an incredible opportunity,” Auerbach said. “After 15 years running independent companies, it will be exciting to see the view from the other side, and I look forward to working with many of the fantastic creative partners that I’ve collaborated with throughout my career.”
Go Go Luckey, meanwhile, has shuffled its executive ranks in advance of Auerbach's departure. The reality television banner has upped two members of its senior management team to partner, added a new COO and CFO.
Co-founder Julie Auerbach will now serve as chief content officer, with chief operating officer Henry Capanna upped to CEO. Head of production Tina Gazzerro Clapp has been tapped president of reality.
“Henry, Tina and I are like family, so it makes me incredibly happy to formalize our shared commitment to making great television as partners in the new Go Go Luckey,” Julie Auerbach said. “Gary’s next chapter is a wonderful opportunity for him, and it has invigorated us to take Go Go Luckey to the next level, including setting an aggressive course for expansion into scripted and other areas.”
Rounding out the executive team, Go Go Luckey has tapped David Franzke (Punk'd, Betty White's Off Their Rockers) as COO and Richard P. Ryba as CFO.
“David and Richard are incredibly talented individuals,” Capanna said. “We have had the pleasure of working with them on many shows over Go Go Luckey’s 11 years and are thrilled for them to join our team.”
Go Go Luckey also recently promoted Bill Castonzo to vp development, and Olivia de Courson to director of development. Frank Prather continues as vp casting.
