Ex-'Gawker' Viral Content Expert Neetzan Zimmerman Joins 'The Hill'

The former Whisper editor-in-chief has been named senior director, audience and strategy at the political publication.

Gawker's former viral content expert, Neetzan Zimmerman, has joined veteran political publication The Hill.

Zimmerman, who started Friday, has been named senior director, audience and strategy at The Hill and will expand the Capitol Hill publication's reach into new demographics.



"Neetzan understands the digital world like no one else," editor-in-chief Bob Cusack said in a statement. "His ability to use powerful content to build audiences and drive engagement will be a major asset to The Hill, especially with readers hungry for high-quality political reporting that can fuel conversations on their social platforms."

Zimmerman added: "With unique, original and powerful coverage of topics of critical importance, The Hill is perfectly positioned to continue reaching new heights with its digital audiences. Being able to apply my passion for digital growth to content of this caliber is an amazing opportunity."



The former Gawker senior editor, who most recently led editorial operations for anonymous social network Whisper, is an expert in digital audience development. At Gawker, his posts were responsible for driving more than 30 million page views a month.

Web traffic to TheHill.com has recently skyrocketed, with the number of U.S. desktop visitors growing 71.5 percent from Dec. 2013 to Dec. 2014, according to comScore.
