Veteran film and TV scribe Larry Gelbart will receive the WGA West's Valentine Davies Award honoring industry and other contributions.

Gelbart will be feted Feb. 11 at the Writers Guild Awards gala at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Century City. A simultaneous event will be held at the Hudson Theatre in the Millennium Broadway Hotel in New York.

"We are presenting this award to Larry Gelbart not only for being a leader (but) because we know that he will give an acceptance speech at the ceremony that will bring down the house," WGAW president Patric Verrone said.

Gelbart's film-writing credits include such comedies as "The Wrong Box," "Oh, God!" and "Tootsie," and his TV work includes contributions to the classic comedy series "M*A*S*H." His stage credits include co-writing "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum."

The WGAW annually presents the Valentine Davies Award to "writers who have contributed to the entertainment industry as well as the community at large and who have brought dignity and honor to the profession of writing everywhere."

Past recipients include Fay Kanin, Garry Marshall, Hal Kanter, Phil Alden Robinson, Norman Lear, Neal Baer and Irma Kalish.
