General Mills: Caitlyn Jenner Will Continue to Be a Respected Member of Team Wheaties
Wheaties responded to requests for Caitlyn Jenner to appear on the front of a Wheaties box.
Since Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce, came out as transgender during her interview with Diane Sawyer, fans of the former Olympian have wondered whether or not she would be featured on a new Wheaties cereal box as a woman.
On Monday, the call for Wheaties to create a new box with Jenner on the cover heated up, following Jenner's big reveal in Vanity Fair.
"Bruce Jenner has been a respected member of Team Wheaties, and Caitlyn Jenner will continue to be," Mike Siemienas, brand media relations manager at General Mills, tells The Hollywood Reporter.
"We always appreciate hearing from our consumers, but, of course, we do not discuss our future marketing plans," adds Siemienas.
Jenner was not just a face on the Wheaties box back in the 1970s; she was also a representative for the brand. Wheaties has a track record of bringing former athletes — like Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods — back on their boxes. Jordan and Woods were also Wheaties spokesmen, like Jenner.
Here's a look at opinions from people who think post-transition Caitlyn should be on a new Wheaties cereal box.
I would buy the heck out of a Wheaties box with Caitlyn Jenner on it— chris marstall (@marstall) June 1, 2015
I like Vanity Fair but I feel like Caitlyn Jenner should've debuted on a Wheaties box.— wally geis (@wallygeis) June 1, 2015
