Veteran Hollywood Marketing Exec Geoffrey Ammer Dies at 62
During a career which included posts at Fox, Disney and Sony, he was involved with films ranging from "Toy Story 2" to "Iron Man" and "Thor."
Geoffrey Ammer, the veteran Hollywood marketing executive, died Sunday morning of a heart attack after being rushed from his home to St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica. He was 62.
A native of Toledo, Ohio, Ammer had recently founded his own independent marketing and distribution company, Clarius Entertainment, where he served as president and CEO. During the course of his career, he held a succession of top marketing posts, beginning at 20th Century Fox and also including stints at Cinergi Pictures, Disney, Revolution Studios and Sony.
After then forming his own consulting company G2 Consulting, he was tapped by Marvel Studios to serve as its president of worldwide marketing in 2008, where he was involved with such hits as Iron Man, The Hulk and Thor. After Disney acquired Marvel, Ammer joined Relativity Media in 2010 as worldwide president of marketing, a post he held for six months.
The extensive list of films that Ammer helped to release during his studio tenure ranged from Disney titles like The Insider, The Sixth Sense and Toy Story 2 to such Sony movies as Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle and Men in Black II.
Ammer is survived by his wife Mia Ricchiuti Ammer, a son Geoffrey, 7, and daughter Annie, 5, and two sisters, Connie Ulmer and Bonnie Ammer.
