"You can count on Americans to do the right thing after they've exhausted all the other possibilities," the star added.

Last year George Clooney criticized Donald Trump's presidential campaign antics, suggesting that anyone offering such "intolerant words should be laughed at."

With the GOP presidential nominee now breaking ahead in the race to be the Republic candidate, the Hail, Caesar! star has added a splash more venom to his sentiments.

"He's just an opportunist," Clooney told The Guardian. "Now he's a fascist, a xenophobic fascist."

However, the actor did suggest that he was optimistic that Trump's campaign would never lead him to the White House.

"You can count on Americans to do the right thing after they've exhausted all the other possibilities," he added. "You know, the truth of the matter is, in election season, things go crazy, and the loudest voices are the furthest and most extreme. So you hear a massively stupid idea, like we're going to ban Muslims from the country. Now, we're not ever going to do that."

Although Clooney is among Hillary Clinton's A-list supporters and fundraisers, he also offered his support to her Democrat rival.

"I really love Bernie Sanders and am really glad he is in the debate," he said. "He is forcing the conversation to things that never get talked about in U.S. politics: disparity between the rich and the poor, which is getting worse and worse every day."
