German Box Office: 'Mockingjay 2,' 'Spectre' Dominate
Germany's traditional holiday boost is in full swing, with Pixar's 'The Good Dinosaur,' Spielberg's 'Bridge of Spies' and comedy 'The Night Before' all performing well.
The holidays have come early for the German box office, which is revving up as the days grow shorter and the nights colder. The winter season is traditionally a strong one for the territory and the past weekend's performance was evidence of that as Hollywood tentpoles dominated with strong numbers.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 2 defended its position atop the German charts, earning a further $7.5 million(€7.1 million) to push its total take over $20 million for the territory. Behind it was Spectre, which earned $4.4 million (€4.2 million) in its fourth frame, taking German earnings for Sam Mendes' latest Bond film past the $50 million mark.
New entries made up the remainder of the top five, with Pixar's The Good Dinosaur ($1.3 million), Steven Spielberg's Cold War thriller Bridge of Spies ($856,000) and holiday-themed comedy The Night Before ($340,000) all delivering solid starts.
Overall, admissions topped 1.7 million for the weekend, with around $17 million (€16 million) in revenues.
