The N.W.A biopic earned $2.2 million in its opening weekend, beating out returning title 'Mission: Impossible – Rouge Nation.'

The hot summer weather continues to beat down the German box office, as another sunny weekend spelled disaster for new releases.

So it was with Universal's hit rap biopic Straight Outta Compton, which opened at number one in the German charts, but earned a paltry $2.2 million with just 165,000 tickets sold. Overall, there were fewer than 800,000 admissions for the entire three-day weekend in Germany, a further sign that, in Northern Europe, the sun is the studios' greatest enemy.

Mission: Impossible – Rouge Nation, in its fourth weekend, earned $887,000 on 90,000 admissions, good enough for second slot, while new entry Hitman: Agent 47, a videogame adaptation, made $791,000 with 85,000 tickets sold. To compare, the first Hitman film, in 2007, opened to 170,000 admissions back in 2007.

Fans of EDM, of which there are many in Germany, didn't come out to support Zac Efron's We are Your Friends. The StudioCanal title, which features Efron as a DJ chasing his dreams, earned $370,000 on 40,000 tickets sold, not enough for a top five place, even on a German weekend as weak as this past one.
