BERLIN – German networks have pulled their news correspondents out of Tokyo as Japan's nuclear crisis worsens.

Germany's leading broadcasters -- including pubweb ZDF and commercial nets RTL and N24 -- have moved their Japan correspondents out of Tokyo after fears that radioactive waste from the Fukushima reactor could spread to the Japanese capital, some 250 kilometers (155 miles) to the south. Pubweb ARD has kept its main reporter team in Tokyo but moved secondary teams out.

The German reporters have moved to Osaka, more than 300 miles to the south of Fukushima. The move came increased levels of radioactivity were detected in Tokyo.
