She will take over a role originated by Ruth Wilson on Broadway in the play penned by Nick Payne.

Once Upon a Time star Ginnifer Goodwin will make her Los Angeles stage debut in Constellations.

The Geffen Playhouse announced the news on Monday, adding that Goodwin will play Marianne. Constellations is a love story centering on Roland, a beekeeper, and Marianne, a quantum physicist. "A play that balances on the question of 'what if' is, at its core, a poignant picture of 'what is,'" said the release. The play, a critical hit when it opened on Broadway in 2015 starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Wilson, was penned by Nick Payne and will be directed by Giovanna Sardelli (Guards at the Taj).

Constellations will begin previews on June 6 in the Geffen's Gil Cates Theater, with opening night set for June 14 and closing night on July 16. Additional casting is expected to be announced shortly.

Though Goodwin may be best known for her work on the big and small screens, she was trained at Boston University’s School for the Arts, Stratford-Upon-Avon’s Shakespeare Institute, London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. She has been seen on stage in The Corn Is Green at the Williamstown Theatre Festival and Dead End at Boston’s Huntington Theatre Company. Her other credits include HBO's Big Love, Zootopia and Walk the Line.
