TV scribe Gina Gionfriddo topped all candidates in winning a seat on the WGA East Council along with four incumbents and five other candidates.

Gionfriddo, whose credits include "Law and Order: Criminal Intent" and "Cold Case," drew 317 votes, almost 74% of the 430 ballots cast. She was followed by incumbent council member Michael Winship, with 309 votes (72% of ballots cast).

The 19-member council comprises "freelance" seats, filled by writers in various entertainment segments, and "staff" seats, filled by news writers. All are unpaid positions, with the latest balloting held to elect 10 people to two-year terms.

Half of the 12 freelance seats on the council were open. Winners for those slots, in addition to Gionfriddo and Winship, include Walter Bernstein, an incumbent drawing 305 votes (71%), John Auerbach (272 votes, 63%), Bob Schneider (246 votes, 57%) and David Steven Cohen (246 votes, 57%).

With four of the seven staff seats open, winners for those slots include Marianne Pryor (247 votes, 57%) and Andy Meppen (220 votes, 51%), both incumbents; Kate Miller (170 votes, 40%); and Tom Phillips (137 votes, 32%).
