'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo's' Daniel Craig: Rooney Mara Is Spot-On as Lisbeth Salander (Video)
The new trailer for David Fincher's anticipated big-screen adaptation of Stieg Larsson's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo hit the web earlier on Thursday, and people got a better look at Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander.
Though there were critics questioning her casting, co-star Daniel Craig was sold. (In the Swedish trilogy, Lisbeth was played by Noomi Rapace.)
"I think I knew pretty early on," Craig told MTV. "I screen-tested with her a couple times and I saw exactly what David was after with her."
He added, "If you read the books, she's just spot-on. Rooney herself is actually really rounded and normal -- she's not boring, honestly -- but she had to bring this very broken human being to life and she did it brilliantly."
The trailer, set to music by The Social Network composer Trent Reznor, sets the tension between Mara and Craig, who plays journalist Mikael Blomkvist. Mara was reportedly competing with A-level stars for the title role.
Craig, who was doing promotion for Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson's upcoming film, The Adventures of Tintin, said he wasn't interested in doing Fincher's next film, a 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea adaptation that may rely heavily on technology.
"He's got all sorts of things lined up and I do not want to be on that production," he said with a laugh. "I will go and visit them. It would be a great film to watch."
