'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' Premiere: Rooney Mara, Daniel Craig Hit the Red Carpet (Photos)
Sony Pictures releases David Fincher's adaptation of Stieg Larsson's best-selling novel Dec. 20.
With only a week until the release of David Fincher's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, the movie's cast and creatives hit the red carpet Wednesday for the movie's New York premiere.
The movie stars Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig as punk hacker Lisbeth Salander and journalist Mikael Blomkvist, who get caught up in a decades-old case surrounding the mysterious disappearance of a teen in 1960s Sweden.
Of Mara's performance, The Hollywood Reporter chief film critic Todd McCarthy wrote: "Baring all in the several sex scenes, both coerced and consensual, she goes all the way in a performance that compares favorably to that of Noomi Rapace in the Swedish version and its two sequels. She comes across here as the real deal."
Mara wore a black dress with cut-out sides -- which, as THR's Fash Track has pointed out, is becoming the actress' signature look -- while Craig stepped out in a smart-looking suit.
Mara's slightly Goth look was still a far cry from her costumes in the movie, which were designed by Trish Summerville, who recently sat down with THR to talk about how she landed the gig and the challenges of doing '60s period costumes, edgy street punk garb and Mikael Blomqvist's layered, casual elegance.
On the impact of the film's style, she admitted: "It was nice to see, right after the W spread came out, how the short fringe and bleached-out eyebrows, which is such a key look for her, how quickly you saw that in other magazines and editorlals."
Also hitting the red carpet Wednesday night at the Ziegfeld Theater were Fincher, writer-producer Steve Zaillian and co-stars including Joely Richardson and Embeth Davidtz.
Sony Pictures releases the movie Dec. 20.
