Stephen Colbert, Hugh Jackman to Host New York's 2015 Global Citizen Festival
Salma Hayek, Kerry Washington and Olivia Wilde will also serve as emcees for the free-ticketed concert taking place on Sept. 26.
Stephen Colbert, Salma Hayek, Kerry Washington, Olivia Wilde, Hugh Jackman and wife Deborra-Lee are set to host the 2015 Global Citizen Festival taking place in New York this September, Global Citizen announced on Thursday.
The free concert, headlined this year by Beyonce, Coldplay, Pearl Jam and Ed Sheeran, will take place at New York's Central Park on Sept. 26.
The Global Citizen Festival was launched in 2012 as part of a 15-year campaign to end extreme poverty by 2030. Tickets to the event — 48,000 in total — will be given at no cost to those who take action by visiting GlobalCitizen.org and participating in a broad range of campaign efforts to help the poor, including raising awareness through social media, signing petitions and contacting world leaders to push for change.
"I am honored and thrilled to join Global Citizen in urging world leaders to commit to ending extreme poverty. Finally, all that U.N. traffic will have a purpose!" Colbert said in a statement.
Washington added, "I am very excited to be a part of the Global Citizen Festival and to join in this movement calling for an end to extreme poverty so that our future generations can live in a more just and equal world."
The festival will simulcast live from Central Park by media partner MSNBC from 4-10 p.m. both on the television network and on MSNBC.com. A one-hour television special of the concert will subsequently air on NBC the following day (Sept. 27). Global Citizen's official YouTube channel will also show a livestream of the concert for those who cannot attend.
Ken Ehrlich, who has produced telecasts for the Grammy Awards and Emmy Awards for over three decades, is producing the live event.
