Global Green Raises Over $330,000 for Green Schools at Pre-Oscar Party
Adrian Grenier, Emmy Rossum are among those who came out to hear Sheila E. play and to support the environmental organization.
Environmental organization Global Green held its 10th annual pre-Oscar bash this week raising at least $330,000 to fund its initiatives on greening schools, climate change and more.
At the Avalon in Hollywood on Feb. 22, Sheila E. played for a crowd of more than 1,200 guests that included Adrian Grenier, Josh Radnor, Maggie Grace, Emmy Rossum, Dylan McDermott, Johnny Galecki and Sophia Bush. The singer performed until 1 am. “People really stuck around. She put on a hell of a show,” said Global Green executive director Matt Petersen.
Hollywood guests also signed a letter to President Obama urging him to attend the Earth Summit 2012 in Rio de Janeiro this June.
Many of the group’s famous supporters also arrived in plug-in electric hybrid Chevy Volts. Rossum got into the spirit wearing an Olivier Tolentino dress in a sustainable material made from pineapple leaves, while SHFT House wine -- produced by the SHFT eco-boutique website, co-founded by Grenier – was among the drinks served.
Global Green's work with making schools greener and healthier places has impacted more than 55,000 students and teachers over the last decade. "It's about better daylight, air quality, lower energy bills. It's a whole system approach to make our schools better facilities. So many times, schools are like prisons," says Petersen.
The group is hoping to bring the total raised to at least $400,000 with an online auction of a TRON-like lithium-powered Customized Xenon Light Motor Bike from Evolve Motorcycles, which can reach 100 mph, is 100 percent electric and has a 100 mile range. The auction of the bike (list price $55,000) goes through Mar. 14.
Other guests included Revenge of the Electric Car documentary director Chris Paine and Lucy Walker, director of the fracking expose Wasteland.
