Goalpost Pictures Australia Named SPA Producers of the Year
The company won for productions such as "The Sapphires" and "Felony,"' which have been finding audiences internationally.
SYDNEY -- The producer of The Sapphires, Goalpost Pictures Australia, has taken home the top award at the Screen Producers Australia (SPA) annual awards as production business of the year at the SPA conference this week.
As well as The Sapphires, which took AUS$14.5 million ($13.8 million) at the local box office and sold over 400,000 DVDs – Goalpost’s recent slate includes the Joel Edgerton-starrer Felony, which premiered at this year’s Toronto Film Festival, and the ABC telemovie An Accidental Soldier, directed by Rachel Ward.
“Goalpost Pictures has confirmed their reputation as a successful production company, which produces entertaining stories for film and television audiences both locally and globally,” SPA executive director Matthew Deaner said.
TV producer Penny Chapman, a partner in Matchbox Pictures and one time director of television at the ABC, was recognized for her “continuous and outstanding service to the industry" with the Maura Fay award. Chapman is currently working on drama series The Devils Playground and The Gallipoli Story both for Foxtel, as well as having been executive producer of The Slap and producing The Straits.
Breakout company of the year was Jungle Boys.
The feature film production of the year was awarded to Porchlight Films for Cate Shortland’s German language feature, Lore, while See Saw Films won TV drama production of the Year for Top Of The Lake.
TV awards covering different genres included: light entertainment TV production of the year, which went to Shine Australia for The Voice; children’s TV production of the year, awarded to The Dukes of Broxstonia from Sticky Pictures; and documentary TV production of the year, which went to Desert War from Electric Pictures.
Mememe productions’ dirtgirlworld was named Interactive Production of the year and services and facilities business of the year was Lalor Law.
