Golden Camera awards in doubt
EmptyGerman media giant Axel Springer is playing the ultimate party pooper as it considers canceling all of its 2009 galas in response to the global economic crisis.
The move would affect the Golden Camera Awards, one of Germany's top film and TV honors, which Springer traditionally holds in February just before the Berlin International Film Festival.
A Springer spokeswoman confirmed that the company is considering a ban on corporate celebration — "We'll save on parties and events before we save on jobs," she said — and that a final decision on the Golden Cameras will be made this week. (partialdiff)
