How to Get Brie Larson’s Veronica Lake Hair
The actress’ hairstylist, Mara Roszak, weighs in on the superglam Golden Globe 'do.
Brie Larson was just one of the starlets at the Golden Globes on Sunday night whose beauty look drew obvious comparisons to the glamorous age of Old Hollywood. Unsurprisingly, her hairstylist Mara Roszak’s inspiration defined that era. "I wanted to give her a classic Veronica Lake look, allowing [her hair] to feel loose and soft, yet playing off the gorgeous silhouette of her dress."
That figure-hugging red carpet red Rodarte number — with matching lips — completed the retro-infused picture that Roszak calls "very classic, yet chic." She adds that it’s actually quite possible to recreate the effortless look at home. "We take it one step further with taking a curling iron to the hair and setting it, but you can do the same with taking hairpins and pinning your hair back, allowing yourself to multitask while creating curls and texture."
To create Larson's lovely locks, the L'Oreal Paris celebrity hairstylist used a few special techniques. For one, she says, "when you wrap the hair around the barrel [of the ghd Soft Curl iron, $199], it’s naturally twisting, and that’s good. Allow the hair to twist around the barrel and ideally have it cover the whole barrel, allowing it to evenly disperse the whole curl." Another pro tip: "To get the front to curl, use pin curls (clips) to set the wave. Then it’s out of your face as you’re doing your makeup, and your hair is setting at the same time." Voila: Lake-worthy waves.
