Golden Globes Fashion: What the Male Nominees Will Be Wearing
THR's predictions for Benedict Cumberbatch, Eddie Redmayne and more

This awards season, the fashion gaze has moved downward — and with good reason. “With trousers narrower and shorter, shoes have become a focal point,” says Eric Jennings, men’s fashion director at Saks Fifth Avenue. With male stars queried as often as women these days on what they are wearing, shoes are the latest player in the style bracket, says Hollywood men’s stylist Annie Psaltiras: “It goes right along with designers stepping up their tux game.” To complement the deep bench of colors in tuxedos, evening shoes are displaying an adventurous mix of materials and shades, “from velvet slippers in black, midnight blue or even jewel tones to patent leather loafers and lace-ups,” notes Dan Rookwood, editor of retail website Mr Porter. Adds stylist Jeanne Yang, who has dressed nominee Michael Keaton, “It’s another extension of a man’s personality or a way to show he has a sense of humor.” Nonetheless, Jennings maintains that dressing for a big evening still demands balance: “If you’re focusing on shoes, keep the rest of the look a little bit understated.” With that in mind, and based on recent red-carpet sightings, THR’s powers of prognostication pair up the newest formal footwear with some of the Golden Globes’ leading contenders.
