"Why would he be?" Gervais asks Piers Morgan.
Ricky Gervais says Robert Downey Jr isn't really upset after the controversial Golden Globes host made mean cracks about the actor's past drug and alcohol woes at the Jan. 16 awards show (Downey Jr called Gervais "mean-spirited" on stage).
"Why would he be?" Gervais asked Piers Morgan during their CNN interview Thursday. "He's Robert Downey Jr. He's the coolest man in the world. Why would he care?" Though HFPA president Philip Berk (one of the subjects of Gervais' jokes) told The Hollywood Reporter Gervais "definitely crossed the line," Gervais told Morgan: "There's nothing you shouldn't joke about. It depends what the joke is. Comedy comes from a good or a bad place, and I like to think that mine comes from a good place." Just because some people got offended, "it doesn't mean you're in the right," Gervais said. "A lot of people are offended by mixed marriage. It doesn't mean they're right." During his wide-ranging interview (most of which has been posted by The Hollywood Reporter), Gervais also addressed why he's an atheist and why his jokes about God shouldn't offend believers. “How many people thank God [in acceptance speech]? I don’t get offended," he said. “I’m not mocking them,” he went on. “People’s beliefs are not my concern at all … Unlike religious people, I look at all religions equally.”THR's Daily Must Feeds
