Margaret Cho is defending her controversial character from Sunday's Golden Globes ceremony.
The comedian, who dressed up as a stern North Korean journalist for several bits throughout the show, took to Twitter to respond to criticism that the character perpetuated a stereotype.
"I'm of mixed North/South Korean descent — you imprison, starve and brainwash my people, you get made fun of by me," Cho tweeted Jan. 12.
"I'm not playing the race card. I'm playing the rice card. #hatersgonwait #winnersgonpun," she added.
Cho, who portrayed North Korean leader Kim Jong Il in three episodes of 30 Rock, also retweeted a number of supportive messages from Twitter users. This included a tweet from rock group Tegan and Sara.
Cho's tweets are below, as is the tweet from Tegan and Sara. Video of Cho at the Globes can be seen above.
