Golden Globes: Who Got Snubbed

'The Imitation Game'

'Birdman,' 'The Imitation Game' and 'True Detective' were among the notable losers

Sunday's Golden Globes ceremony was a happy day for the many deserving victors, including House of Cards' Kevin Spacey, his first time winning a trophy in eight tries. However, not everyone was quite so lucky, including the team behind The Imitation Game.

The awards ceremony featured plenty of snubbed films and TV series, including the Alan Turing biopic, which entered with a whopping five nominations but left empty-handed. The Imitation Game's star, Benedict Cumberbatch, lost the award for best actor in a drama to Eddie Redmayne.

The biggest shocker of the night may have been Birdman losing out as best comedy or musical to The Grand Budapest Hotel. The loss came after Birdman, which entered with seven nominations, landed wins for best screenplay and best actor for star Michael Keaton.

Spacey's win as best actor in a TV drama meant a loss for The Knick's Clive Owen, who entered with a fair amount of buzz. The Hollywood Reporter's awards analyst Scott Feinberg had pegged Owen as the frontrunner in the category.

Feinberg also had predicted that Selma's Ava DuVernay would win for best director, but Boyhood's Richard Linklater prevailed in the category. Selma, which entered with four nominations, won for best original song but was snubbed in all major categories. This comes after questions arose about the film's historical accuracy.

True Detective landed four nominations but zero prizes, as Fargo's Billy Bob Thornton beat out the acclaimed HBO drama's leads, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, for best actor in a TV miniseries or movie.

Another beloved TV star, Veep's Julia Louis-Dreyfus, lost out as best actress in a comedy series to Jane the Virgin's Gina Rodriguez. The loss was the third straight defeat in the category for Louis-Dreyfus, who won a Golden Globe in 1994 for Seinfeld
