LONDON -- Internet search giant Google increased its domination of the U.K. online advertising market in 2006, accounting for 43% of the £2 billion ($3.9 billion) spent and 75% of the total £1.2 billion ($2.4 billion) search market here, according to figures released Wednesday by the Internet Advertising Bureau.

In 2005, Google accounted for 35% of a market that totaled £1.36 billion, but the accelerated growth in online advertising has given it an even larger share of the pie.

The U.K. online advertising market is fast catching up with the television market here, with leading commercial broadcaster ITV1 logging £1.4 billion ($2.7 billion) in advertising revenue last year.
