Hockey Star Gordie Howe Dies at 88

Howe played 26 seasons in the National Hockey League.

Iconic hockey star Gordon "Gordie" Howe died Friday. He was 88.

Howe was a Detroit Red Wings legend and Hockey Hall of Famer. The team confirmed his passing. 

"Thoughts and prayers to the Howe family as Gordie Howe passes away at the age of 88," the Red Wings tweeted on the team's official account. 

Howe, a right wing, played 26 seasons in the National Hockey League. He also played six seasons in the World Hockey Association. 

He retired from the game at age 52.

Howe was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972.

"The Hockey Hall of Fame is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Gordie Howe. Mr. Hockey was a true legend," the Hall tweeted on its official account.
