CW Orders Crime Drama Pilot from 'Gossip Girl's' Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage
CW is back in business with the team behind the CW's Monday night pairing, Gossip Girl and Hart of Dixie.
The network has ordered to pilot Cult, a sudsy crime drama from executive producers Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Len Goldstein. Rockne O'Bannon (V) is attached to pen the pilot script as well as EP the potential series that would center on an inquisitive, young female production assistant on a wildly popular television show, Cult, who joins a journalist blogger in investigating the show's rabid fans. Together, the duo find the fans might be recreating crime scenes from the show in their real lives - behavior that has lead to a rash of disappearances and a likely murder.
In keeping with the younger-skewing network's plan to rethink the network's once narrow strategy with new chief Mark Pedowitz at the helm, a knowledgeable source suggests the network is considering doing a cable-style, limited-run 13 episode season, if the project is ultimately picked up to series.
Schwartz and Savage's Fake Empire, in association with Warner Brothers Television, will produce the project. It joins The Carrie Diaries, another Schwartz-Savage collaboration, adapted from author Candace Bushnell's Sex and the City prequel, in contention at the CW.
Schwartz, Savage and O'Bannon are repped by WME.
